As a VALVe "default" map, it ranks second only to 2fort as most played in TFC. Dustbowl has only 3 capture points compared to Avanti's 4, but teams do not trade in Dustbowl as they do in Avanti. In Dustbowl, the offensive team remains always offense and begins at the bottom of the town, attempting to break through the defense and capture each point in order. Meanwhile, the defensive team remains defense the entire map and attempts to hold back the offense until time expires.

 OVERVIEW

Offense has 25 minutes to take their flag through 3 seperate sections to 3 seperate capture points. There are 1 minute delays at the start of each section, so the actual 'playing time' is 22 minutes. The attackers win by capping all three maps in 25 minutes. The defenders win by stopping the attackers before they reach the last capture point.

At the start of each map, the blue attacking team is kept behind gates so as to give the red defending team a chance to get set up defensively. Messages are sent at 60, 30 and 10 seconds telling how long there is before the gates open. When the countdown ends, the grate will open to allow the blue team out. They now have to get their flag to the first of 3 capture points. Red's job is to slow them down as much as possible. If offense hasnt succeeded within 10 min on the first capture point, an automatic timer will open up an additional route for the offense above the grenades. (Demomen cannot open it up, ever)

Once the blue team have managed to cap the flag, everyone respawns on the next map and the 60 second pre-grate-opening process starts again. There are three different maps in total to complete. If the blues manage to cap the last point, the game ends. Alternatively, the reds can prevent the blues from capping and then they'll win.

When the flag is dropped, if no attackers touch it for 30 seconds it will return to their respawn.

Steam put a new spin on the map.
